"Near me" is doing a lot of work in that search. For the iPhone Duo, the answer to whether one is in stock near you depends almost entirely on how you define near, and on when you look. Here is how we would approach it.
Start by drawing your circle
Before you check anything, decide which Apple Stores you could actually get to if one showed stock this week. Be generous. Most people only think about the store they usually go to, and that cuts their chances right down.
A useful test: if a store had your Duo ready for pickup tomorrow morning, would you go? If the answer is yes, it is in your circle. For a lot of people that is two or three stores. For people in big cities it might be five or more. A 90-minute trip to a store with stock is a much better deal than a delivery date in late January 2027, which is what Apple's online store currently quotes.
How to check pickup at nearby stores
On apple.com or in the Apple Store app, pick an iPhone Duo configuration and choose pickup instead of delivery. Enter your postcode or ZIP and Apple lists nearby stores with what each can offer. Apple's pickup page currently says to check back from Saturday 24 October, the day after launch, so do not expect to see pickup slots before then.
A few things that trip people up:
- Availability is per configuration. A store might show a 1TB Night Sky and nothing else. If you only check one storage size and colour, you will miss the others.
- Each store is separate. The store across town tells you nothing about yours.
- It changes constantly. A store showing nothing at 10pm can show a unit at 8am, and be empty again by 8:15.
Why one check is never enough
Duo drops are small and arrive with no schedule anyone outside Apple can see. Apple has said demand is "extraordinary", and in the first weeks, many stores will probably get a few units at a time. Those go to whoever is looking at the right moment.
That is why "is it in stock near me?" is the wrong question to ask once. The better question is "will I be looking when it is?" Checking every store in your circle, for every configuration you would accept, several times a day, is a lot of tapping. Most people give up in a few days.
Make your circle work harder
Accept more configurations. Both colours and two storage sizes is four targets per store. Across three stores, that is twelve chances every time stock arrives, instead of one.
Check early in the morning. Make the Apple Store app the first thing you open. Fewer people are awake, and you will often see what arrived overnight or at opening.
Stay signed in with payment ready. When you see a unit, you want to be through checkout in under a minute.
Mind the pickup window. Once you reserve, you need to collect within Apple's time limit. Do not reserve at a store you cannot reach in time.

So if your circle has three stores, you can watch all three, and alerts keep coming at every new drop until you turn them off. Missing one is fine; the next one will reach you too. We cannot reserve a phone or promise there will be stock, but you will know when to look.
Keep a backup in place
If you have a pre-order with a January date, keep it. Hunting nearby stores is how you might beat that date, but the pre-order is what gets you a phone if the hunt takes longer than you hoped.
