iPhone Duo pickup says check back 24 October: what it means

Apple says to check back on 24 October for iPhone Duo store pickup. What that message means, what to expect that weekend, and how to be ready when slots open.

If you have tried to choose in-store pickup for an iPhone Duo on Apple's site this week, you have probably seen a message telling you to check back on Saturday 24 October. Here is what that means, why Apple does it, and how to be ready for the weekend.

Why pickup is switched off right now

During pre-orders, Apple briefly offered store pickup as an option, then disabled it as orders flooded in. That is a common pattern at big launches. Apple has to fill pre-orders first, then get stock into stores and counted after launch day. Rather than show pickup slots it might not be able to honour, it turns the option off and tells people when to come back.

So the message is not saying stores will have nothing. It is saying pickup reservations for new orders are not open yet, and Apple expects them to open from 24 October.

What to expect on the 24th

Honestly, nobody knows how much stock will show. Apple has not said, and with new online orders quoting late January 2027, it is clear supply is very tight. Some stores may show availability for some configurations at some point that day. Others may show nothing. Some units may appear and disappear in minutes.

It is also worth knowing that pickup availability does not appear at one fixed time for every store. If 24 October comes and your store shows nothing at 9am, that does not mean it will show nothing at 1pm, or on Sunday, or on Tuesday.

Do not treat it as a one-day event

The biggest mistake would be to treat 24 October as your only chance. It is the start. Apple Stores keep receiving deliveries after launch, and each one is a fresh chance for pickup. People who check on the 24th, see nothing and give up will miss everything that comes after.

How to be ready before the weekend

Know your configurations. Pick your first choice, then decide which other storage sizes and colours you would accept. There are eight configurations in total: 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB, in Star White or Night Sky. Each one you accept improves your odds.

Choose your stores. Two or three you could reach for pickup, not just your closest.

Sign in and save payment. In the Apple Store app and on apple.com, with your billing address and card ready. If you are trading in, have the details sorted.

Clear your morning. If you can, be looking early on Saturday 24 October. Being early is not a guarantee, but it beats checking at lunchtime.

Have the app open, not just the website. Some people find the Apple Store app quicker to check and check out on.

Set up an alert so you are not watching all weekend

iPhone Duo Finder watches the Apple Store you pick and emails you as soon as we spot iPhone Duo pickup stock there. It is £5 per store for any Duo, or £10 per store for one exact model, storage and colour, shown in your local currency and paid through PayPal with a card or PayPal account.

Alerts do not stop after 24 October. They keep coming at each new drop, for as long as you want them, and you can turn them off whenever you like. That matters, because the weeks after launch weekend are where many people will get their phone.

If you already have a pre-order

Keep it. Whatever date it says, it is the Duo that is already on its way to you. Trying for pickup from 24 October is a way to potentially get one sooner, not a reason to give up your place in the queue. If a pickup comes through, you can sort out the other order afterwards.

What we cannot tell you

We do not know how many Duos any store will get, or when. Nobody outside Apple does. We read the same public pickup availability you can see on apple.com, just far more often than a person can. Drops are likely to be small and irregular, especially in the first few weeks, and we cannot promise you a phone on the 24th or any other day.
