"Sold out" is the phrase everyone sees in launch week, and it is rarely the whole story. Here is what it usually means for the iPhone Duo, and what you can do about it.
Sold out online vs sold out in store
When people say the iPhone Duo is sold out, they usually mean one of two things:
- Online delivery dates have slipped. Apple keeps taking orders, but the estimated delivery moves later. Your phone is not unavailable; it is queued.
- Pickup is unavailable at nearby stores. Apple shows that your local stores cannot offer pickup right now for that configuration.
The second is the one that changes constantly. Apple Stores receive stock every day, and a store showing nothing at 9pm can show availability the next morning.
Why a new foldable sells out
A few reasons stack up:
- It is new. The iPhone Duo is Apple's first foldable iPhone, so there is pent-up interest.
- Eight configurations. Four storage sizes and two colours split supply eight ways in every country.
- Simultaneous launch. It releases in the US, UK and more than 70 other countries and regions on 23 October 2026, with 28 more on 30 October. Supply is shared across a lot of markets at once.
How long does it last?
Nobody outside Apple knows exact production numbers, so be cautious of anyone giving firm dates. In past launches, availability for popular models has improved over the weeks after release, and the most in-demand configurations have stayed tight longest. Treat any prediction as a guess, including ours.
What actually helps
- Watch store pickup, not just delivery. Delivery dates move slowly; store stock moves daily.
- Be flexible. If you would take either colour, you double your chances. If you would take 256GB or 512GB, even better.
- Widen the radius. A store an hour away with stock today might beat a delivery date weeks away.
- Be quick when you see it. Have your Apple Account signed in and payment saved.
- Get alerted. iPhone Duo Finder emails you as soon as your chosen store shows pickup stock. It is £5 for any configuration or £10 for your exact one, a one-off fee for the alert service.
We cannot guarantee you a phone. Stock is limited and others will be looking too. But being told the moment it appears is the single biggest advantage you can have.
What not to do
- Don't panic-buy from scalpers. Resale prices usually fall as supply improves. See our eBay guide.
- Don't pay for "guaranteed" phones. Nobody outside Apple can guarantee stock.
- Don't give your Apple Account details to anyone offering to order for you.
Don't be disheartened
Don't wait until January. Most people who want an iPhone Duo will get one much sooner by watching store pickup closely.
